Current Projects

People ask every week how they can support Real Belonging, so here is a list of current projects and ways you can make magic! We deeply appreciate however you choose to pitch in and/or share with your networks:

Help Create Domestic Violence Trainings That Matter

Shelter staff are underpaid, overwhelmed, and inadequately supported. As an advocate and survivor currently working in a DV shelter, I’m creating the training tools staff need—and making them available to everyone: practical, constructive, trauma-informed, evidence-based trainings rooted in real-world shelter dynamics well beyond mere awareness.

Today, the average person feels more confused than ever about what gender even is — but VOCA and VAWA require DV shelters to accept all DV survivors seeking shelter, regardless of gender. This means shelter staff need training on how to work with cisgender women, cisgender men, transgender women, transgender men, non-binary people, Intersex people, Two Spirit people, and gender-questioning people respectfully. This is essential for protecting what’s left of current shelter funding sources.

With your support, I’m creating Understanding Gender for Domestic Violence Services as my December 2025 capstone project for graduation from the Park University M. Ed. in Organizational Leadership and Adult Learning program. These affordable, accessible trainings will help DV workers reduce harm, create safer environments, and stay grounded in compassion and justice without burning themselves out.

The course will include video lessons, downloadable training tools to make shelter managers’ lives easier, and a community discussion resources for connection and grassroots solidarity.

The Front Porch: A Healing Refuge

The Front Porch is a semi-secluded haven where queer and trans people in Arkansas come for mentorship, encouragement, peace, deep breathing, and community gardening.

Your donation to The Front Porch project helps 28+ trans people in the Ozarks maintain community connectedness and stability in their lives amidst ongoing uncertainty. Thank you!

Every $7 helps trans folks in the South build life-saving community and reclaim personal dignity in a safe, healthy way.

The Real Belonging Gift Shop

If you and five people you know purchase one item from the Real Belonging gift shop, two major things will happen:

  1. The world will be a more beautiful place because you’ll be wearing a really schnazzy shirt designed by a rural trans artist in the South who was able to buy food this week thanks to your great taste in fashion.
  2. The community garden and DV training resources both get funded sufficiently to move forward and keep growing!

So please tell your friends about the Real Belonging Gift Shop, and encourage folks to support rural trans artists when shopping for birthday and holiday gifts this year.
